The byBrick Management analysis of several global megatrends shows that our society is moving rapidly into a service dominated economy. The need for more services as well as different kind of services is increasing and Service Management as a steering management discipline becomes more and more important even for traditional product-oriented enterprises.

The megatrends are showing that the need for, and use of, knowledge increases, as information becomes an even more common commodity. The need for specialists is growing and traditional generalists will have a hard time proving their value in the future. Even more challenging is the evolving of specialist basing their specialist knowledge on a broad and diverse platform, using a background as generalist in being a specialist in a certain field.

The ability to adapt to change becomes less important compared to individuals and organizations building their operational foundation on a continuous willingness to change, not reacting to change, but driving change! The need for contemplation increases, as people need to have time to breathe in the ever faster moving development of knowledge and change.

Individualism in networks will be the future way for people to communicate and to distinct themselves from others. People’s personal brands will increase in importance and people will use the possibilities to communicate in networks to build their own personal brands based on their skills and interests. They will become more and more niched in their specialities creating needs for buying specialised and directed services covering what they can’t do (or don’t want to do). A secondary effect of people specialising is the creation of new services based on their new acquired skills. Services that can be offered to others…

All in all, we can look forward to a society moving into more service orientation and us operating in Service Management having many opportunities assisting organizations in their journeys into becoming Service Providers.

We at byBrick Management want to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Service Management Year!
